The “Star” Ferry Ranks First in the World’s "Top 10 Most Exciting Ferry Rides”

Hong Kong, February 25, 2009... The “Star” Ferry Company, Limited (“Star” Ferry) announced today that it has been rated first in the “Top 10 Most Exciting Ferry Rides” poll by the Society of American Travel Writers (“SATW”).

SATW, the world’s largest organisation of professional travel journalists and photographers, recently polled its members to come up with the “Top 10 Most Exciting Ferry Rides" in the world. Bea Broda, President of the Society, commented that public and private ferry boats provide an inexpensive alternative to cruises, often traversing some of the world’s most beautiful harbors, fiords, rivers and waterways at bargain prices.

Topping the list, the “Star” Ferry receives compliments from the following members of the Society:

  • Chris McBeath, a guide book author, said a ride aboard the “Star” Ferry is crammed with views and people to create the cheapest multi-cultural, multi-sensory cruise experience in the world.
  • Robin Robinson, the travel editor at Toronto Sun, mentioned that the “Star” Ferry provides great views of the city skylines and a glimpse into the lifestyle of Hong Kongers for under a buck.
  • Catherine Watson, a freelance writer/photographer, admired the view from the “Star” Ferry at twilight is one of the best in the world.
  • Fred Gebhart, a freelance travel writer, remarked that the “Star” Ferry is the perfect introduction to the controlled frenzy that is Hong Kong.
